Metalock Brasil attended on board to decarbonize and overhaul Auxiliary Engine No. 4, a Hyundai Himsen 8H25/40, of a container vessel, during its voyage along the Brazilian coast.
The crew had initiated the work, disassembling and removing the cylinder heads and pistons from the engine.
Metalock Brasil’s technicians measured all the clearances of the dismantled pistons, liners and cylinder heads.
The technicians then disassembled main bearings numbers 4 and 3 for inspection of the bearings and journals and verified that they were in good condition. They checked the measurements and polished the crankpins and honed the cylinder liners. They reassembled the bearings and inspected the piston crown ring grooves clearances for the new piston rings.
New bearing shells were assembled at the thrust bearing, the pistons were assembled with new piston rings and the cylinder heads were assembled with new O’rings and gaskets, tightened to the manufacturer’s torque settings.
The crew tightened the fuel injection valves and replaced the lube oil filter.
After making adjustments to the clearance of the intake and exhaust valves on all cylinders, the crankshaft deflections were checked. The engine was then started and tested, remaining fully operational.
