A company specializing in compressor maintenance for Pet bottle blowing machinery, contacted Metalock Brasil to repair a damaged compressor cylinder.
The cylinder had three cracks, located in three separate valve cage housings, each measuring approximately 70mm in length.
As the equipment was made of cast iron and the damage had reached the cooling region of the cylinder, it was necessary to ensure complete tightness of the cracks. The most effective solution found was the Metalock® Cold Repair.
Slots were cut in transverse to the cracks, Metalock keys fitted into the slots, holes were drilled and tapped along the cracks and Metalace studs inserted; Metalock keys in conjunction with Metalace studs form a pressure tight joint and rigid repair.
After the repair the cylinder was pressure tested successfully.
