One of the world’s largest shipping companies, with a large fleet serving Brazilian ports, contacted Metalock Brasil for a challenging task: to fully operationalize one of their four auxiliary generators before reaching North American ports.
Several meetings were held between the client’s base in Cyprus and Metalock Brasil’s headquarters in Santos (São Paulo). The mobile pin of the crankshaft was damaged, with material deposition and cracks on its surface.
In response, Metalock Brasil dispatched its specialized technicians to assist the ship during the voyage between the ports of Santos and Suape. Services included cleaning, measurement using special techniques (hardness verification, roughness, run-out, and non-destructive testing by magnaflux), and machining. One mm was removed from the diameter of the mobile pin.
Finally, final polishing services were performed in Panama. This was Metalock Brasil’s last international service in 2023, completed on New Year’s Eve with full approval from the shipowner.
