Metalock Brasil conducts maintenance on vessel crane, ensuring structural safety

Metalock Brasil, a leader in MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations), recently completed a crucial maintenance task on the No. 01 crane of a vessel, reinforcing its commitment to the safety and efficiency of maritime operations.

The maintenance process began with the straightening of the crane boom structure, which was performed onboard the vessel. The damaged sheave was transported to Metalock’s workshop in Rio de Janeiro. Our specialized team started by removing the damaged pin and the worn sheave.

A new pin was manufactured by Metalock according to the original manufacturer’s design, ensuring that technical and safety specifications were strictly met. We identified the equivalent material with the same mechanical strength and chemical composition.

The sheave was straightened using a press, followed by the correction of residual straightening in a lathe during the machining process, ensuring precision and durability.

After machining, a new bearing was installed, enhancing the equipment’s functionality and safety standards. In the final stage, the crane structure was straightened onboard the vessel using a special jig developed by Metalock Brasil, where the sheave and the new pin were precisely reinstalled.

To ensure the effectiveness of the repair, a load test with water bags was conducted, which confirmed the effectiveness of the maintenance performed.

Additionally, Metalock Brasil submitted its welding procedures (performed by qualified welders) and straightening for approval by the Classification Society, which validated the quality and compliance of the services provided. This approval reaffirms Metalock’s commitment to the highest quality and safety standards in the naval industry.
