Metalock Brasil was called upon by a major Brazilian oil company to assess the feasibility of repairing the engine of a lifeboat, which seized and broke during routine tests, rendering it inoperable.
The lifeboat, with a capacity for 95 people (POB – Personnel on Board), being out of service negatively impacted the platform’s personnel capacity and overall operations.
Metalock Brasil, in collaboration with the platform’s management, developed a detailed action plan. The process included receiving the engine, identifying the necessary parts, importing, replacing, reassembling, and testing.
After the repair was completed, the lifeboat was transported from Rio de Janeiro to Santos (São Paulo), where Metalock Brasil installed the engine. At the request of the oil company, Metalock also performed the annual inspection and replaced the cylinders and hoses of the breathing air system.
To ensure safety, a sea trial was conducted with the assistance of a support vessel, supervised and approved by ABS, the Classification Society. The lifeboat was then transported back to Rio de Janeiro, allowing the platform to resume operations at full POB (Personnel on Board) capacity.
Metalock’s efficiency and commitment were crucial in swiftly resolving the issue, ensuring the continuity of operations on the oil company’s platform.
